Jordyn Simone: Breaking the Boundaries of Genre in Her New Single, "Drown"

At only 21, California-based singer/songwriter Jordyn Simone has already found several lifetimes of success. She grew up in a musical household, born to a pianist and saxophonist/vocalist and raised on gospel from the age of five. At the age of 7, Simone joined the Amazing Grace Conservatory added musical theatre to her already extensive resume, later going on to star in their production of Wicked at the age of 12. She eventually continued on to study at the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts, where she was a member of a multi award-winning vocal jazz ensemble and won the Top Artist Award all three years. As a finalist on season 15 of American Idol and season 14 of The Voice, Simone stunned international audiences with her rich, soulful voice. She’s since played countless venues across Los Angeles, including El Cid and Hotel Cafe, her impeccable vocal control leaving audiences wanting more-- and, luckily for us, her latest single comes just in time to headline your summer vibe playlist.

Released on May 11, “Drown” showcases Simone’s masterful blending of style and

sound to reflect her own unique element. A self-described “genre-less” artist, Simone’s single draws on influences from a plethora of different musical styles, creating a distinct fusion of elements from her upbringing. The track rests on an infectious bass-driven beat, expertly combining a smooth RnB groove, a sultry vocal, and an undeniable air of self confidence. The result of a summer romance in July 2020, “Drown” represents Simone’s ownership of self love and embracing her own womanhood. “While I was in this relationship, I felt extremely empowered by my femininity, so much so that I felt as though I needed to write about it,” she says of the track.

Although this is one of Simone’s first solo releases, it certainly won’t be her last-- if her current bio is any indication, we have a feeling she has plenty in store for the future.
